Happy Friday, RISERS! I hope this week has been good to you.
Happy Birthday to all of you who turned a year older this past week. And Happy Anniversary to you and your loved one for reaching another milestone year together.
Quote of the Week: "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." Aristotle
Joke of the Week: What do you call an anxious mosquito? A jitterbug.
Recipe of the Week: Pineapple Lemonade
What you’ll need:
1 cup Country Time lemonade mix
3 cups of cold water
1 46-oz can chilled pineapple juice
2 12-oz cans of Sprite
Mix together and serve cold.
BOOK of the Week: "How to Get to Awesome-101 Ways to Find Your Best Self" by Rhonda Sciortino. I had the privilege of meeting her in Anaheim at the National Foster Parent Association conference in 2019. She is a keynote speaker who exudes positivity. No wonder she wrote about being awesome.
Organizational Tip of the Week: Since summer is on the downhill swing, it means that it is time to get clothes ready for school. Go through all closets and remove clothes that have gotten too small. If they are in good condition, save them for the next child down in your family, or donate them to a foster care closet near you. Toss out clothes that have holes and stains. But remember, if you wouldn’t put these on your children, do not donate them as other parents would not use them either. Same thing with shoes. Knowing ahead of time what you need will keep you from overspending while clothes shopping.
Recharge Tip of the Week: Go to the movies by yourself. Use this time to screen a movie to see if it is appropriate for your children, then go again with the family. My husband is great at knowing when I need some time by myself. Choose a movie and don't forget the popcorn...
Shout Out of the Week: This week, I want to give a shout-out to single parents...you do the work of both moms and dads for your children every day. You do homework, go to dance practice, or ball practice. You often have little time for yourself. You handle all appointments and surprise health issues on your own. Please remember to pour into your own cup so you can love the important people in your life.
Have a great weekend. Remember, you are most awesome, and YOU ROCK!
