Celebrate Time With the Person You Call “Dad”

Happy Friday, RISERS! Every year at this time, we have a colossal mash-up of birthdays and celebrating Father’s Day. Happy Birthday to my children, Spencer and Olivia. If you have a birthday this week, Happy Birthday to you, as well. I hope it’s a good one.

Quote of the week: “My father used to say that it’s never too late to do anything you wanted to do. And he said, “You never know what you can accomplish until you try.” –Michael Jordan

Movie of the week: I had difficulty trying to suggest just one film that had an exciting father, so I’m going to briefly mention three. For an animated movie about the complexity of paternal love, I suggest Finding Nemo. Marlin is very protective of Nemo and does his best to guide and protect his son. For the dad who enjoys action-adventure movies, we have The Empire Strikes Back. With the Disney Channel creating a big craze this month by bringing new stories of these Star Wars characters to television, this is certainly one to watch. And then, for the sports father, I recommend Field of Dreams starring Kevin Costner. The great quote “If you build it, he will come” comes from this movie. Plus, it’s another helping of the brilliant actor James Earl Jones, aka the voice of Darth Vader. So, with all of these options (and more I didn’t mention), I hope that you and your family will have a great Father’s Day.

Joke of the week: I asked my dad to help me with a math problem. He said, “Don’t worry, this is a piece of cake.” I said, “No, it’s a math problem.”

Nugget of Wisdom for the week: This week, I just want to say that I hope you have a great weekend with the father figure in your life. My father passed away two years ago. He was in the Navy until I was 13 years old, so I grew up used to him being away. Even as an adult, though I saw my father regularly, I missed the times we could do things together when I was younger. Don’t take for granted the time you have with the person you call “Dad.” Fathers don’t need to be blood related. They just must love you, accept you as you are, and encourage you to shoot for your dreams. Happy Friday!

Have a great week. Remember, you are most awesome, and YOU ROCK!
