How to Find the Courage to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Happy Friday, RISERS! I hope this week has been good to you. It’s hard to believe we have reached the halfway point in February. Spring will be here before you know it! Even though time seems to move quickly, be sure and take a moment to relax and be intentional. Time is something you never have enough of, and it can’t be taken back once it’s gone.

Quote of the week: “Just don’t give up what you’re trying to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong.” –Ella Fitzgerald

Movie of the week: The movie I want to mention this week is The Princess Diaries. The theme of the day is getting out of a rut, and even your comfort zone. In this story, Mia Thermopolis had to realize she was no longer a semi-awkward girl, but a princess. She had to change not only her physical appearance, but also how she carried herself and her thoughts for the future. Although most of us will never be told that we are the heir to the crown in a European country, we will have times where we must stray from the normal and comfortable. I hope you like this great movie.

Joke of the week: What kind of bone should a dog never eat? A trombone.

Nugget of Wisdom for the week: The wisdom I want to share with you goes hand-in-hand with today’s podcast topic, getting outside your comfort zone. Most of you are still trying to decide what career field to explore as a full-time job after getting through school. Choosing what to do for your life work is one of the most daunting things imaginable. When I was a child, I wanted to explore jobs such as secretary, teacher, and veterinarian. And sure enough, I have worked as a secretary and a teaching assistant. Unfortunately, my allergies squelched my dreams of working full-time with animals, though I did try a job in a pet store. While these were jobs things I had imagined doing, I have also done work that was not my thing and scared me half to death. For example, when I must give a speech in front of a group of people, I feel like I will pass out. Then, once I get through the speech, I ask myself why I got so scared. You may be intrigued by a field of study that is exciting but also scary to you. Don’t hold yourself back from an opportunity just because of fear. Prepare as much as you can, try it out, and if it simply doesn’t work for you, reset your focus and try the next thing. You’ve got this…

Podcast of the week: In this week’s Find Your Purpose podcast, trauma survivor Rhonda Sciortino and life coach Jenny Christiansen discuss ways to find healthy relationships, wellness, peace, joy, and financial sustainability—even if you feel “stuck in a rut” with your employment. Click here to listen as they talk about how to step outside of your comfort zone in order to live your true purpose and enjoy real success.

Have a great week. Remember, you are most awesome, and YOU ROCK!
